PCE: VSE Major Ship Repair Contractor

Propulsion Controls Engineering (PCE) is pleased to announce that we have been included in the list of major ship repair contractors under Prime Contract holder VSE to provide services in support of U.S Ships, bought, leased or otherwise transferred through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Program. This prestigious list of ship repair contractors includes NASSCO, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, SAIC and Raytheon. It is anticipated that the U.S. Navy will decommission and transfer 28 Oliver Hazard Perry class (FFG-7) frigates in the next 5 years as these ships reach the end of functional service life. The historic FMS customer base spans 6 continents and includes Greece, Taiwan, Chile, Egypt, Philippines, Germany, and Brazil. The contract includes a Base Year and 4 twelve month options with a ceiling of $1.503 billion.

PCE: Wins Signal Mutual Indemnity Association “Industry Leader Safety Award”

Propulsion Controls Engineering has been awarded the Industry Leader Safety Award. Signal Safety Awards are awarded each year to only 11 of the 220 Members who have made the greatest contribution to improving safety in the workplace. The awards are categorized to Stevedores / Terminal Operator, Ship Builders /Repair, Marine Construction, Offshore Services and Maritime Services.

PCE’s Presidents and employees received the award at our corporate headquarters in San Diego from Mr. Larry R. Toepper, Vice President of Signal Safety Resources. The award is the result of hard work from employees at all PCE locations along with numerous hours of training supported by the PCE’s Management team.

PCE: USNS Navajo

Propulsion Controls Engineering, San Diego has been awarded a $325,000 fixed price contract for the USNS NAVAJO (T-ATF 169) Voyage Repair for Military Sealift Command (MSC). The Navajo is a United States Navy fleet ocean tug that has been in service since 1980. The work package includes General Steel Repairs, Replacement of a tow bitt, Reduction Gear Alignment Verification, Bridge repairs to the GMDSS, Diesel Engine Air Start Motor Overhaul, Tow Winch Repairs and Laundry Room modification. Work is to be performed in San Diego, CA and is expected to be completed by March 2012.


PCE: USNS Mercy

Propulsion Controls Engineering, San Diego has been awarded a $2,900,254 contract to complete a mid-term availability (MTA) on USNS MERCY (T-AH-19). The contract includes work on main propulsion systems, piping systems, communication and electronic system grooms, crew habitability and periodic U.S. Coast Guard inspections and certifications of critical onboard systems. The work is to be performed in San Diego, CA from January 3 to February 12, 2012. The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website. Military Sealift Fleet Support Command is the contracting activity.


PCE Awarded New Contract

Propulsion Controls Engineering, San Diego has been awarded a $1.9 million fixed price contract for the USNS MERCY (T-AH 19) Mid Term Availability (MTA) for Military Sealift Command (MSC). The Mercy was built as an oil tanker, SS Worth, by National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in 1976. Starting in July 1984, she was renamed and converted to a hospital ship by the same company. Launched on 20 July 1985, USNS Mercy was commissioned on 8 November 1986. The Mercy class hospital ships are the third largest ships in the U.S. Navy Fleet by length, surpassed only by the nuclear powered Enterprise and Nimitz class super-carriers. The work package includes weather deck preservation, Propulsion Plant and Boiler inspections, Main Circulation Pump repairs, A/C Plant conversion, State Room upgrades and Life Boat grooming. Work is to be performed in San Diego, CA and is expected to be completed by mid September 2011.


PCE Awarded New Navy Contract

Propulsion Controls Engineering, San Diego has been awarded an $11,000,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the maintenance and Class "B" overhauls on Cummins brand diesel engines on small boats and crafts for the Navy. The engines to be overhauled are from the small boats and crafts of Assault Craft Unit One, whose mission is to operate, maintain and provide assault craft as required by the amphibious task force commander for waterborne ship to shore movement during and after an amphibious assault.  Class "B" overhauls restore the engines to its original design and technical specifications. Work is to be performed in San Diego, CA and is expected to be completed by November 2014. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website with three offers received.  The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, CA is the contracting activity.


PCE Navy Contract

Propulsion Controls Engineering, San Diego, CA and Valley Power Systems, Inc., San Diego, CA, are being awarded a combined $19,500,000 multiple award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the maintenance and Class “B” overhauls on Detroit brand diesel engines on small boats and crafts for the Navy. The engines to be overhauled are from the small boats and crafts of Assault Craft Unit One, whose mission is to operate, maintain and provide assault craft as required by the amphibious task force commander for waterborne ship to shore movement during and after an amphibious assault. Class “B” overhauls restore the engines to its original design and technical specifications. Work is to be performed in San Diego, CA, and is expected to be completed by November 2014. Contract funds in the amount of $25,000 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with three offers received. The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, CA, is the contracting activity.
